Nigeria's Democracy And Its Crisis Deliberate, Avoidable : Why you must be one of those who think different

How can we overcome the obstacles that make decline inevitable?  Photo: Uche Okeke.

There is tension in the land . Governance is compromised. Restructuring rejected. No one talks about development. There is insecurity in the land.  Democracy is subverted, now in full crisis. The behaviour of political leaders now threaten our democracy and national unity.

The government is not interested in modernity- harnessing 'markets and innovations' for the good of the country.  The positions seems to be ,we must accomodate the herdsmen or face the consequences. We're now back to the dark ages;  the 20th century politics and it's ugly devastations: Police state, mass propaganda, command economy, routinised terror, mechanised murder, etc.  Everything is bent on consolidating power.

What is the legislature, the judiciary, opposition and civil society doing ? . Now is the time to think different if we must salvage our subverted democracy. We must resist exploitation and repression. We must be able to recognise the difference between rhetorics and reality. Now is the time to think different.

Uche Okeke.
