Nigeria's Democracy And It's Crisis; Deliberate, Avoidable: Honest Search For the Good: - Uche Okeke

Question the norm? "First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win"-Ghandi. Social change needs new thinking, each of us can work to change the way things are. Photo: Uche Okeke.

Freedom is not freely given, so lets work together for change to happen. Whenever you question the norm in a dysfunctional system, "you are not likely to be rewarded or greeted with applause for identifying this disconnect, particularly by those who benefit from controlling information. Collective and individual disequilibrium is a by-product generated when you call attention to tough questions and draw people's sense of responsibility beyond current norms and job descriptions. When you raise a difficult issue, you take people out of their comfort zone and raise a lot of heat"- Harvard Business Press.

We must stand strong in the face of "official arrogance and neglect", mockery, hatred, envy, lies, defarmation, smear campaign, etc, freedom is not easily given to the oppressed. The oppressed must ask for freedom from the oppressor. We must be bold to drive change.

Freedom is when we know we have options, however,
"Learning is often painful. One person's innovation can cause another person to feel incompetent, betrayed, or irrelevant. Not many people like to be re-arranged"-Harvard Business Press.

We must stop celebrating tyranny and adapt to a new way of doing things. We must not be discouraged that there is nothing one man can do, history has proved that individual actions can bring social change, however, its better and more effective if we work together, so let us work together for change to happen- change the stats-quo.
In the words of the great Nelson Mandela, "one of the sad realities today is that very few people especially young people read books. Unless we can find imaginative ways of addressing this reality, future generations are in danger of losing their history" .
We must be willing to ask important questions about the future instead of settling for political bribery to uphold the status-quo, the very reason for continuous crisis..., We must face the challenge for change to happen. Our potentials are limited by the destructive passions of few individuals and interests groups. Change happens when we are ready to take action to challenge the status-quo.
Finally in the words of Michael Gove, former UK's Justice Minister and the current Enviroment Secretary; "The dissent drives change , advances enlightenment, and fosters human flourishing". It is only true constant challenge that the truth can stay strong and only through learning how to argue against error that successive generations can effectively defend what is right".
Do not wait for permission to start social change. No one is going to come and say 'here's your permission'. People do not resist change, they are not stupid. "People love change when they know it is a good thing. What people resist is not change per se but loss. people prefer the status-quo when change involves real or potential loss, people hold on to what they have and resist change..., Significant change is the product of incremental experiments that build up over time"-HBP

Here is the crazy ones. The trouble makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They are not fond of the rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is to ignore them, because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do"-Apple".

  1. Reject political bribery. Reject Authoritarian rule. Demand Restructuring. Restructuring is the primary condition for change in Nigeria. The time is now not after the next elections- Uche Okeke
