Nigeria's Democracy And It's Crisis; Deliberate, Avoidable: The Peril of 'destructive passion'- death by hanging for free speech

"...Africa is corrupt and riddled with authoritarianism, broken morals. It lacks modern values and the institutions of a free market economy needed to achieve success"-[The End Of Poverty. How We Can Make It Happen In Our Lifetime]  Photo: Uche Okeke

Despite today's growing expanding individual freedom, we continue to witness further declines in 'political rights and civil liberties in Nigeria, very violent repression. Democracy exists where the citizens are regularly informed of the activities of the government and the government is willing to listen to the sentiments and wishes of the citizens irrespective of their ethnic group or political ideology.

An open and transparent government is willing to listen and seek collaboration on policies that affect the citizens, but seeking the use of 'coercive power' to violently repress the citizens even with death by hanging in the 21st century means that the country is in a great danger, however the government came into existence by us so we shall collectively vote to deny them another opportunity to violently threaten our collective existence with death by hanging.

I know the legislators will reject such an insane bill, but this is a very dangerous signal of the rough road ahead. The world will be laughing at such barbarity. Voters should sanction such a legislator proposing 'death by hanging' for free speech in 21st century by rejecting him at the polls.
In advanced societies no political party will accept such politician for any elective position. He will be isolated.  Unfortunate crimes of corruption, terrorism, abduction, kidnapping, killings, etc didn't merit death sentence but free speech, wow!

Again this reinforces the need for the restructuring of the current political structure which helps the government weilding 'absolute power' to unleash repressive sanctions against the citizens. What's the point of seeking election if you are not willing to accommodate unpleasant truths, only what the government want people to see and hear. Any other thing is blasphemy, what a democracy!.

Where there is too much lies, trust is broken, truth becomes hate speech to be violently repressed-death by hanging, what a society!. No wonder, they say we're incapable of self-governance, very sad. They said power is a very dangerous thing, we have to be very careful to read the dangerous signs ahead.  If God is for us who can be against us?.

Governments are set up to secure the rights of  Life, Liberty and  the pursuit of Happiness', not to destroy these rights. There is urgent need to collectively reject repressive sanctions that threaten us with untimely death in a country we call home.
