Nigeria's Political Structure- 'Monstrous Conception'-Uche Okeke

Why Restructuring Nigeria?

"A society is an association, a kind of Joint Stock Company in which all concerned should be consulted concerning the management of the undertaking..., a choice must be made if we attach some value to the existence of the society"-Durkheim.

We have argued that the current political structure given to us by the military is the first corruption and the root of today's massive corruption in Nigeria. Today we have a choice to sit down together and come up with a workable structure that will guarantee inclusiveness, growth and stability. This is a choice without which any society is impossible in the words of Durkheim. "A society that was not more solidly cemented together would risk being swept away at the first storm".

There is urgent need to restructure/modify/improve on the current political structure to achieve the goal of democracy: ''Life, Liberty, The Pursuit of Happiness''.

The current structure has failed to improve the welfare of ordinary people instead induces Autocracy-division, discrimintion, violent repression, bribery, etc. "Excessive administrative centralization is a monstrous conception- not as a coming evil that must be forseen and prevented, but as a present evil from which we must cure ourselves"-Schaeffle[Durkheim on Politics & the State; Edited by Anthony Giddens].

He described such idea a 'horroffic idea' and advised that we must reject a system 'slowing down' the functioning of the machine, making it not to be efficient. Read More - New Book.
