Now is the time to encourage digital start-ups in Nigeria

At a time when political leaders are declining responsibilities in tackling youth unemployment, this can serves as  a golden moment for young people to take their own destinies in their own hands. We have just listened to Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari's new year speech, he made it very clear that young people should not just sit and wait for employment from the government or organised private sector. This may not be a good news especially in a country struggling with infrastructure deficit and lack of government support for entrepreneurship. Photo: Uche Okeke
''I am today appealing to enterprising Nigerians with ideas and unemployed graduates and other able-bodied and literate men and women with ideas not to just sit and wait for employment from the government or organised private sector. Great nations are built by enterprising people who turn their hands to anything that circumstances dictate''- President Muhammadu Buhari.
The truth is that today, starting a digital business is very easy and less expensive. You can start with just a blog instead of making yourselves willing tools online to the politicians to attack opponents and scholars working for social change. The same politicians that have failed to provide you basic services for a good future.
Anyone can have a breakthrough idea, but you have to be bold to put your great ideas to work. By starting you will gain more experience, and make some income .
According to Martha Lane Fox, Co-founder of lastminute.com: "Starting a digital business, even if it fails is a great grounding for a career. Don't go into a bank, don't go into accountancy, go into a start-up.You will learn a bucket load more and you will gain solid experience.".(The Digital Business Start-UP WorkBook- Cheryl Rickman).
The remarkable truth is that you can start your digital business from the comfort of your bedroom anywhere, anytime, as long as there is an internet connection. Today's technology has created a wonderful opportunity for young people to start their own online businesses. You can start immediately.
You can leverage the wonderful opportunities provided by social media including Facebook and Twitter to grow your online business. "In Nigeria alone, there are more than 22million monthly Facebook users, 10 million of them log in daily to the platform, all on mobile devices"-(Facebook Launches Community Hub in Nigeria; Ized Uanikhehi; CNN, December 5, 2017)
Start your own digital business today and learn about google's automated adsense program and other digital income opportunities.
