Luring in opposition chieftains in Nigeria degrades government intergrity and value

Recent events in the political enviroment is akin to 'theatre performance'; Nollywood. Sadly, it is the people of Nigeria who will bear the brunt of full blown authoritarian rule as the country continues its journey to uncertainties. We need to be ready. What's the point of political witch hunt, bullying and intimidation of political opponents if their colleagues are welcomed to a red carpet dinner hosted by a government that claims to fight corruption. As we have rightly observed defection to the ruling party has become immunity from corruption. This sends a very dangerous signal. The message is 'play offensively' to win the next election at all costs, but that's not the future we want. The government has spent nearly four years to convince the electorates that certain politicians destroyed the economy of the country only to lure them in to the ruling party to inflate their ranks  and diminish the chances of opposition. This is dirty trick, mocks integrity and degrades value of government. The politicians are no longer corrupt  since they are of electoral value so what's the point of fighting corruption?  The government should stop ridiculing the polity and acknowledge that it has failed to deliver and stop seeking scape goats. It's a common knowledge that corruption in Nigeria involved everyone irrespective of party or religious affiliations and the current government is also not free of corruption as evident in recent audits in the petroleum sector. The sponsors of the 2015 presidential election were the same corrupt politicians currently serving this government. We have argued that the root of corruption in Nigeria is the current political structure which grants power holders the right to do as it pleases them, so any geniuine efforts at fighting corruption should start from institutional reforms not political witch hunt to consolidate power. The ruling party wants to win  the next elections at all costs deploying ruthless strategies that has the potential to ignite conflict instead of focusing on how to deliver good governance. Suddenly the Vice President, Professor Osibanjo declared that the restructuring debate which was the ruling party's election manifesto is no longer necessary, despite government's  manipulation of the rest of the society with a committee report to buy time. Now tell me, is this the leadership he is talking about? Luring in opposition chieftains simply means that there is no change and there's nothing we can do about it. It is a shame that the government has failed to lead by example, thus presents a big threat to future stability and prosperity of the country.  The tragedy is that political opponents may result to violence to resist state abuse since it has become very obvious that its only political enemies that are targeted. According to Punch newspaper , Eight politicians with N232Billion corruption cases are working for President Buhari's re-election. "These are politicians who are currently either under probe or prosecution for allegedly diverting government funds". [Punch September 1 , 2018].

There is urgent need for the government to provide a level playing field, embrace restructuring of the political system to avoid controversies that have the tendency to plunge the country into unnecessary political turmoil. This issue of political bias  needs to be properly addressed if we truly don't want the country to descend into further insecurity, mass poverty, chaos and unnccessary political turmoil and uncertainties. Today the government should be focused on human liberation, empowerment not just the next election to consolidate  their grips on power. Any country that wants to be successful needs stability, peace, it needs everyone, not control, intimidation, exclusion. Everybody should be worried about the dangers of prolonged uncertainties and what the future holds as we are getting ready for the next elections in 2019. Igbo President is a right not a choice in their own country, Nigeria.

"It is the inalienable right of Ndigbo to freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic , social and cultural development ; a position that the right of the Igbo to self determination is sacrosanct and cannot be denied or taken away"- Professor Uzodinma Nwala, President Alaigbo Development Foundation. If greedy and violent citizens take up arms to capture natural resources in ethnic diverse societies, the only solution to manage divisions they create is 'constitutional settlement'. It's a misfortune that people are not asking important questions. Instead of unnecessary political manoeuvres  to win the next election; what is needed most is the restructuring of the current political system to guarantee equity and justice by eliminating the state imposed barriers making Igbo President impossible. We are dealing with a very oppressive system devoid of 'rationalisation'. The aim is direct political and economic domination of one group by another; ''a parochial conception for exploitation''. There is urgent need for proportionality in the constitution to balance the political system to guarantee minority rights and respect in the Nigeria project. The constitution should be able to guarantee a fair chance of the six-geopolitical zones to produce a president in a heterogeneous society like Nigeria where the pull of identity is prominent, instead of throwing it open between the North and South. Nigeria is plagued by greedy and violent people who tore the society apart with a 'master plan' to use the country's resources as it pleases them, so these people are not our friends. The time has come to reject unnecessary political manoeuvres to continue business as usual. The Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki, recently revealed that the same people fronting Igbo President as a condition for public services also promised the APC Chieftain, Bola Tinubu President in 2023, this demonstrates that the master plan of the centre about the Igbos have not changed. We have no greater stake in the dominant political parties so at the mercy of others. The time for restructuring is now, we must get it right. Igbo president is a right not a choice in their own country, or a condition for re-election. A better simple strategy would have been a regional bloc/political party to force the centre to the negotiating table instead of succumbing to personal gains; political bribery- political appointments, etc. The current system is a 'master plan' to favour particular ethnic groups in the distribution of important positions and other patronage-'government revenue allocation, political representation of both'. We must wake up before its too late. The Vice President, Professor, Osibanjo, recently said the country's problems were not about geographical restructuring but about proper management of the country's resources, however, what he has failed to address is 'Homogeneous society is an advantage when it comes to democratization' and Nigeria is not. Where would this leadership come from? Which zone/region?  We need full commitment to make restructuring work. Rational reorganisation is very imperative to end the cynical manipulation of the hijackers and their agents in the fraudulent enterprise. Restructuring- constitutional settlement will guarantee Igbo President, a big challenge to the political elites. Igbo President without restructuring means acceptance of the 'grand narrative/master plan' of those who created the mess we are in. Igbo president without restructuring is not the solution to discrimination, marginalisation of Ndigbo in the Nigeria project. It's a mere administrative position to serve the status-quo- abnormal executive/legislature wages and allowances, fund traditional rulers/religious leaders and functions, unproductive federal agencies, patronage politics, medical/education tourism, security votes, maintain security, fund the next election and other 'white elephant projects', that's the whole point. We can learn from Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan's presidency. Meanwhile a group of Igbo organizations in diaspora and at home comprising Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), Global Igbo Alliance (GIA), World Igbo Congress(WIG), and Igbo Caucus of the Lower Niger Congress (LNC), have called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to organise a referendum for the Igbo people by the end of December 2018 to determine their future in Nigeria, so that Ndigbo can take their destiny in their own hands; Igbo Groups Demand Referendum For Ndigbo, Vanguard, September 4 2018. No doubt this declaration corroborates our strong position for urgent restructuring of the current political structure to guarantee equity and social justice in the Nigeria Project. The time for change is now. Enough of the marginalisation of the ethnic minorities and the conquering techniques by the power holders to constantly diminish the chances of Ndigbo from gaining economic and political power in Nigeria. Democracy still remains the best option but it's under threat in Nigeria.

"A better future is earned. It's hardwork. It's the job of citizens"-Ex President Barack Obama. Photo: Uche Okeke.

What's the point of living if you can not have a different world view. Today democracy is under serious threat from totalitarian barbarism in Nigeria. It just stare at us in the face but many pretend not to see it. Thinking needs to change. History tells us that tyranny is the cause of human sufferings, also it has no friend. Read this blog regularly change your worldview. This blog is a genuine effort to provide new information and ideas to help shift thinking and possibly help change the way things are.

Be inspired to change the way things are. They said there is a secret at the heart of government, so our job is to help get ordinary people to be properly informed- expose and distort political lies and mis-information that has become routine tool for manipulation of ignorant minds. The system is not broken , its designed the way it is for the benefit of the few. The time has come to change the way things are; 'empower ordinary people', this is the future.

We will continue to do our best to keep our readers well informed, with world class information which many don't have access to. Change is possible, it needs ordinary people to put pressure on the political elites. Everyone has a role to play in a democracy, this blog is one of those roles and we are very determined to do it. We've got some work to do. Democracy must be inclusive. Ordinary people need jobs not bribe(recharge card to help attack innocent people on social media). They need the job now not after the next election.

They say affliction hits any country that elects authoritarian leaders, this is exactly what we are currently witnessing in Nigeria. Election is not expected to be credible, free and fair, elected officials are not accountable to ordinary people. We have just seen a new report by the defence minister. In his words; "security report from the North-East Nigeria is worrisome", thus confirming what we already know, given the unending strategy of exclusion of political opponents. This should be of concern to everyone. Once Africa's best performing economy and the largest economy in Africa is facing a huge political crisis due to authoritarianism. Heightened escalation of violence is becoming real on a daily basis and the government has just confirmed that.

We are being proved right on daily basis, so we must reject authoritarian leaders before it's too late. We must resist those who want to frighten us into 'chaos and retreat'. Democracy; 'the last best hope for mankind'. We must be willing to choose between Good vs Evil.

Virtually all that the late Kofi Annan stood for is what drives us: 'Peace and eradicating poverty'. He worked for individual freedom and believed in equity and justice, a fair and just world free from tyranny and control rather human liberation-empowerment. This still remains a great challenge to world leaders. Poverty is man made and can be eradicated.

The Golden Age is about Enlightenment, Education, Empowerment of people, Equality of opportunities, increased role for women, Autonomy, Freedom. In the words of President Barack Obama; "integrity, persistence, optimism and sense of our common humanity always informed his outreach". As the world celebrate this great global statesman, we hope his death will inspire action to change the way things are. Adieu, the great diplomat.

'Information is liberating', so we must encourage those willing to tell new stories that can help change the way things are.

I alone will fix Nigeria. Are we ready to sing this new national song?

"..., democracy in a country this big with such a diverse population must recognise that this thing called democracy needs everyone and its something that all of us have the capacity to do. That's not the job of the president. That's not the job of a bunch of professional policy makers. It's the job of citizens"- Ex President Barrack Obama. Photo: Uche Okeke

Politics can be a good theatre. What history has shown again and again is that the story of authoritarianism has ever remained the same. President Muhammadu Buhari has just returned to Nigeria from a medical trip to the United Kingdom and threatens to jail perceieved political enemies  just six-months to the next election in 2019, so that only him will stand the next presidential election in 2019. Meanwhile he has failed to recognise that using the country's resources for personal gains, funding medical and education tourism is also corruption. Several eminent groups and the opposition PDP party have cautioned that the president ought to start the jailing of corrupt officials from his own government  ministers, party members and political associates.

The truth is the president has not bothered to consider the implications of this policy on local peace, international legitmacy and investments. This is laughable, barbaric and silly invitation to anarchy. How can the president fight corruption or fix the country without opposition? What message does it send when corrupt politicians defect to the ruling party to claim immunity?

Find out more as we look at this policy- 'obbession with loyalty' and the crushing of political enemies who dare to challenge Oga at the top; full blown totalitarian barbarism  and the dangers it presents to Nigeria's democracy.

History also tells us that in a democracy the strongman looses as the people no longer want to live in fear. Autocracy is backward looking, intolerence, intimidation, bullying, etc. Is this the future we want in a 21st century? We must be very careful before it becomes too late for freedom. We have consistently argued that  the biggest corruption in Nigeria is the political structure that is overdue for restruction as it gives the hijackers the licence to do as it pleases them, 'expensive, wasteful, dictatorial' .

Meanwhile everyone is involved in the stealing of the little funds compared to the wastes of the political structure. This government has wasted a lot of funds in fruitless oil search, unaudited security votes, unauthorised ransome payments, funding of holidays, political bribery, to effect leadership change at the senate, unilateral decisions to build railway to Niger etc, yet its not considered corruption, so i wonder what is corruption. The president is also the petroleum minister because there is no trusted person in the country to hold that position. There are several reports of mass corruption in the oil sector, so who will investigate the presidency?

Restructuring the country is the only solution to minimise the risk of corruption not political jail of the opposition which has the potentials to escalate violence. If we want to solve corruption in Nigeria we must start from the scratch get to the root of the problem not the surface. The government is using propaganda to misinform and manipulate the population for political gains. This may result to crisis. Democracy does not exist where only one politcal party conducts election for itself while the opposition are in jail. Exclusion comes with a price, we can see it coming, the world is watching.

Abuse of power to crush political opponents is no longer accepted in the 21st century. Yesterday's by-election in Rivers State clearly presents the picture of elections in 2019, this period the violence will occur simulataneously in all the states in Nigeria. The implications is obvious. The time has come to put to end to the idea of using federal powers to intimidate and purnish those seen as political enemies. This is the main reason why restructuring Nigeria is a development intervention whose time has come.

Everyone benefits if democracy succeeds. Everyone has a role to play in a democracy. That's the whole point. Sadly this government is strictly doing the opposite soon everyone looses, we can see it coming especially from the Northern Nigeria. Opposition is very important in a democracy. The time has come to put an end to junk politics by erratic grumpy politicians, no individual has a monopoly of wisdom to fix the society. Concerns about escalation of violence is becoming real on a daily basis.

Restructuring Nigeria; the big political question of our time- 'Expensive, Wasteful, Dictatorial'.

Regions/States "need democratic autonomy to deviate from the political priorities of the center, unitary-centralised system cannot bring change in diverse societies"-Professor Jan Erk. Photo: Uche Okeke

My initial attempt to address this topic was my blog post on Why is oil not a blessing to Nigeria? We were told wealth in natural resources induces autocracy in ethnic diverse societies, we're still suffering that plague till date: discrimination, divisions, exclusion, poor resource management, corruption, violent repression of civil liberties, killings, ethnic minority discrimination and intimidation often using conquering techniques to diminish their chances to compete for political and economic power, exploit them when necessary, census figures manipulated to influence revenue allocation, and control of democratic institutions including the legislature, abbitrary power for the centre, to do as it pleases, widespread inequity in everything: Education, legislature, Military, Police, Jobs, etc. Some states and LGA's were created for personal gains and political gains, even political appointments to unproductive agencies, public services are for political gains. We have seen 95/5% public services policy, etc. Here public services are no longer a primary duty of the government but for political gains.
Click on this link to read: http://www.theleadprojectfoundation.com/2018/01/the-story-of-nigeria-why-is-oil-not.html

Authoritarian rulers desperate to enrich themselves,  discarded the political system envisaged by the founding fathers to guarantee  growth, stability, equity, justice and empower the various regions to exploit their comparative advantage and competitiveness ,created a monstrous political structure that will enable them achieve their selfish interests  given them absolute power to do as it pleases them. The system does not believe in the majority, growth for all rather, the few-their families, friends and associates. They were not much bothered about inequality nor investing for the majority for the future. Anyone who disagrees is an enemy of the state that must be dealt with including killing. They resort to bribe and bullet to hold their grips on power.

Today, that thing they did has come under intense pressure to adjust/reform/restructure, as its not designed to work for the good of the society but exploitation. The population is growing rapidly, there is the danger of insufficient resources to cope with this trend, also threat from technology which could also be harnessed for the good of the citizens. The truth is that oil will not last forever and the people that did this thing are in the process of dying a natural death leaving us in crisis.

Never has the agitation for this restructuring ever been prominent than this dispensation. The plague of mistake of destiny has taken its toll on every citizen, people are now alarmed that the next level will be danger for the whole of Nigeria. Restructuring was election manifesto that won President Muhammau Buhari and the ruling APC party elections in 2015, now the government and the ruling party are playing political football with the restructuring debate. Read More: The Mistake of Destiny: http://www.theleadprojectfoundation.com/2018/02/today-nigeria-is-not-democratic-country_26.html

The President no longer think , restructuring is the solution to instability and stagnation, so its not necessary and faults the process of the debate. The ruling party has indicated they will only consider the report of their own committee on restructuring the country after the next election which many consider doubtful. In a civilised society ''such inflated promises'' will definetly come to hunt them, but we are dealing with 'ignorant, misinformed and irrational' system.

The truth is that the time has come to restructure Nigeria to free up resources held at the centre for the growth of the society instead of just the next elections and 'white-elephant projects'. We have just seen INEC's budget of N146.2billion for the next election in 2019, we learnt the government has a debt of about N22trillion in three years, We are aware of £670 million dollars per annum unaudited security votes, Senators wages and unaccountable constituency funds of about N200million per annum, they said the whole place will be on fire if the wages for the executive is disclosed, so the system works just for the next elections; fund unproductive federal agencies for political gains, fund citizen religious holidays, etc,  yet the states cannot pay minimum wage, create jobs, build industries, provide essential infrastructure for development. We have also seen ransome payments for terrorists often a unilateral decision of the executive, fruitless oil search, railway for Niger Republic, new refinery for Katsina State, when there is already a refinery in Kaduna state next door, all sole decision of the President using his position as licence to do as it pleases the executive. The president is also the petroleum minister, i don't know who will query him.

There is widespread insecurity, mass unemployment, a new report put it at 40-percent, increased rural-urban migration, etc. Some states struggle to pay wages and pensions, provide better infrastructure and public services including education and training, healthcare, internet/broadband, housing, etc. The LGA's also hijacked by the tyrannical state governors, often appointing their family and friends as care-takers. World bank report says Nigeria has overtaken India as the world's poverty capital, etc. We have seen the seiege at the national assembly, just to effect control , prevent independence of the legislature and resist restructuring. Political bribery is fueling defection. Our elected representatives now choose authoritarian leader in a democracy, so why were they elected in the first place, to do what?, perhaps, enjoy inducements and benefits carefully designed to maintain the status-quo. They have opted not to take a stand, so history will remember them.

The president has cited corruption as the reason for governance failure, but the root of corruption is the political structure, it creates more wastes than the pockets of corruption that is also avoidable. Now who audits the Presidency? The recent activities of the herdsmen also revealed volumes about the failure of the political system. The state governors were unanimous in raising alarm that their positions are mere administrative positions while the center weilds the main power. This resulted in huge loss of lives in the affected states.

Restructuring is about new way of doing things, adjusting or re-balancing of the current system for efficiency- new jobs ,new sea ports, airhubs, more power and sufficient financial/economic resources to the states, stronger institutions, better public services- education and training for new skills , entrepreneurship, improved infrastructure including electricity, internet/broadband, safety and security of citizens, freedom and autonomy, effective and efficient tax system,  agriculture, manufacturing, trade, technology, less urban-rural migration, etc, overall development especially at the local level.

It needs a political will to effect the restructuring of the monstrous conception that keep ordinary people in endless poverty. We cannot have any meaningful change without restructuring the country. Even the so called state police needs sufficient funding. All the societies that have done this are peaceful and prosperous. Our political leaders must put aside selfish interest for the better future of the country.

In the words of Professor Jan Erk; "It is hard to imagine a unitary-centralised system bringing better democracy, policy efficiency, development and growth to ethnically, economically, geographically diverse societies".-Federalism And Decentralisation in Sub-Saharan Africa: Five Patterns of Evolution, 22 December 2014.

Restructuring is a primary condition for managing the divisions in ethnic diverse society like Nigeria, not election every four years to continue business as usual. Oil will one day be depleted, we must invest in growth policies- infrastructure, Education and new skills training for jobs of the future  especially at the local level, security and stability for external investment including diaspora. Human liberation- empowering people-everyone(young people, women), should be the focus instead of concentrating the resources at the centre to enrich the 'few', fund white-elephant projects and the next election. There's urgent need for a national dialogue to have a constitutional settlement based on equity and justice for a fair and just society. This is the future.

We have enumerated further possible benefits  here. Click on this link to read- The Golden Age: http://www.theleadprojectfoundation.com/2018/03/nigerias-democracy-and-its-crisis_27.html

Restructuring Nigeria is a development intervention whose time has come. The political leaders must do the needful, enough of the 'bribe and bullet'. I totally agree with Yuval Noah Harari; "Humans are endlessly creative, sometimes we solve problems by changing the question rather than answering it". The time to restructure the country is now, not after the next election.

We must stand firm to reclaim democracy in Nigeria before its too late

Nigeria's Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki addressing heads of political parties during a world press conference, shortly after the invasion of the national assembly by gunmen in Nigeria. Photo: Facebook

Loyalty is my property. Nigeria is plagued by the mistake of destiny and they have not proved us wrong.

The politicians are not our friends. They divide us along ethnic lines and party lines, in the end its ordinary people who are the victims of unnecessary political storm they create. The result is stagnation, prolonged political and economic uncertainty. The Nigeria stock market is an example so it is in other sectors no matter how hard we pretend. Attack on the legislature is a major threat to representative democracy,-One system of democracy that aims to make democracy work.

The time has come to end the rantings of the APC Chairman for the sake of our democracy. The noise about leadership change or party control is not what the country needs now. We must learn to accept that we are in changing times where individual rights and freedom is supreme so it is with autonomy. As it stands nobody knows when the National Assembly will reconvene which puts a lot at stake. Independence of the legislature is very essential in a rapidly changing world.

Endless ranting by the APC Chairman to unnecessarily heat the polity questions good sense, mocks modernity and questions his awareness and understanding of individual rights, freedom and autonomy in the golden age. Today loyalty to the country is more important than loyalty to the political party, thinking needs to change. Loyalty is very difficult to regain once trust is broken, so let us learn to put the country first.

We must say no to the old way of doing things and reject those who exploit crisis for political gains. If the Senate Presidency is a condition for performance, the government should simply tell Nigerians that they no longer have anything to offer. This crisis further damages their already battered credibility as anti-democratic party whose ideology is terror, extermination of anything that opposes it. This is not the type of democracy and the future we want. Rising economic inequalities and mass unemployment will not be easily reveresed by leadership change in the national assembly.

The ruling APC party promised us restructuring to win the 2015 elections but failed to deliver. Its only in a rural society that such ''inflated promises'' go unchallenged by the electorates because they don't have a choice-'ignorant, misinformed, irrational'. History will definitely remember this plague. Good always triumph over evil. There will be light when the dust finally settles.

Further warning from history: This may be our last chance to save democracy in Nigeria

"Elected strongmen have succeeded in turning fledging democracies into electoral dictatorships"- Professor Yascha Mounk.

Democracy in Nigeria is in danger of full blown dictatorship. We must end this seiege if we want to free ourselves from totalitarian barbarism. Elections are not expected to be free and fair. We are witnessing political witch-hunt of the main opposition. The government is seeking various ways to criminalise and jail them, unless they defect to the ruling party. Today, they are fighting for their lost 'crown'-absolute control of the legislature which undermines the legitimate constitutional checks and balances, a return of the society to dark ages.

The truth is that those who think President Buhari is the answer to the country's problems despite monumental flaws should re-think it. Nigeria has overtaken India in poverty, and ranks below Somalia, Congo, etc in security. The country is the worst in electricity supply, no functional refinery, poor public services including education and healthcare, the state of infrastructure is beyound description, so many states cannot pay wages and pension. We have seen a new report by the National Statistics office rating unemployment increase from 37-percent to 40-percent in twenty-one months.
Basically this government lack basic ideas and innovation to create new jobs, yet it rejected the restructuring of the political structutre which was their election manifesto to spin the electorates.
Meanwhile OPEC has predicted 'gloomy' months for Nigeria and other oil economies due to lower global demand in 2019.

All the philosophers say the return of Autocracy is meaningless as it does not hold any promise of change. The consensus is that any society that wants its citizens to flourish and prosper must reject authoritarian leaders. In the words of Professor Yascha Mounk; "the future would not be much different from the past, and the willingness to elect authoritarian leader as a president is a very bad omen''-[The People vs Democracy].

We have written a lot about the mistake of destiny-the invitation of the strong man- a spin and ugly manipulation of human emotions such as fear. Freedom is not freely given. Unless people realise that this government is the problem not the solution they will not bring to end unnecessary vulnerability to endless spin, untruths, mass propaganda, lies, etc, by the power holders(cabals) to continue business as usual.

People need to be better generally in their own country given abundant resources; wealth in natural and human resources. Look around your various states to see if there is any sign that transformation will occur overnight. Now think of the Next Level devoid of reform/restructuring and inclusion; no opposition.

If we are to change the way things are, we can't exclude people who want to be part of that change process on account of their political ideology or belief. Political opponents cannot be shut out of the political conversations about their own country and its future. Those seeking to exclude others are not our friends but our enemies.

The Leadership We Want in Nigeria- Committed Democrats not Authoritarian Leaders

Let's put an end to the danger of 'excessive militarism' in our democracy. Authoritarian leaders play by different rules. The society needs committed democrats, people of expertise and experience to drive a new society built on freedom, liberty, equity and justice. Photo: Uche Okeke.

It's proven beyound doubt that civilians are better in the art of civility and management. The major reason for democracy crisis in Nigeria is military intervention in domestic politics. The mistake of destiny has proved that the time has come to break that tradition.

Authoritarianism does not produce a 'prosperous and awakened' democratic society, rather division, discrimination, corruption, violent repression of civil liberties, poor resource management, stagnation, domination, confusion, control, conflict and political instability. We are currently experiencing it.

According to Tim Montgomerie, Co-founder of the Centre for Social Justice, UK; "a President who comes from a civilian background is less likely to succumb to the danger of excessive militarism of seeing every problem as a nail because the tool you have used during all your life is hammer. While only generals should micromange their battle fields operations, civilians tend to be better judges of how to manage budgets and to use the diplomatic and economic instruments of statecraft".

In his words; "Skills like diplomacy are not easily grasped and the military are not equipped to practice the art of compromise that is essential to democracy". This is evident in today's Nigeria.

The time has come for us to face some home truths about our fragile democracy. Ordinary people need to be well-informed. According to Michael Gove, Ex- UK Justice Secretary; "If we do not learn from history, then we will inevitably be condemned by it".

We must learn to join the new global awareness and say no to the status-quo. No to dictators who are ''backward looking'', intolerent, intimidating, bullying, and cause their own citizens to live in fear.

The anti-graft agency has become a tool to 'criminalise, dehumanise and dethrone' political opponents in Nigeria

Senator Godswill Akpabio who has a pending case before the anti-graft agency, EFCC visits President Buhari in London to secure defection to the ruling APC Party. Photo: Facebook

"How can you single me out of thirty-six (36) governors for investigation? It-security vote is not something that any government will begin to disclose . Why should Benue's case be different if not persecution? If the EFCC wanted a genuine investigation of security vote spending, they should have started from the presidency and across the thirty-six states"-Governor Samuel Ortom, Executive Governor of Benue State, Nigeria. [Akpabio's Defection Puts Buhari's Anti-Corruption War Under Spotlight; Punch , Saturday, 11 August 2018]

Today our political leaders celebrate those who they accuse of embezzling the wealth of the nation as soon as they join their club, so who is deceiving who? What message does it send when politicians defect to the ruling party to claim immunity from corruption? We all know that the said security vote is illegal, how come it has now become subject to investigation?

According to Transparency International : ''Camouflaged Cash"- How Security Votes Fuel Corruption in Nigeria: "Security votes are opague corruption-prone security funding mechanisms widely used in Nigeria. A relic of Military Rule. Security vote in Nigeria is funds provided to Federal, State and Local Government Officials to "disburse at their discretion". Security vote spending is not subject to legislative oversight or independent audit because of its obstensibly sensitive nature".
The report found out that these some of these funds are "chanelled into political activities or embezzled outright".

A government that claims to fight corruption and change the way things are ought to embrace reform/restructuring to get rid of this so called security vote so that the funds will be used for better development projects including healthcare and education, internet/broadband, new seaports, etc, which will help reduce unemployment. The sum of $670 million dollar per-annum spent on security votes by the government can fund new seaports, internet/broadband and new industries that can create jobs for its growing population.

Instead of seeking to criminalise political opponents, the federal government must facilitate the process of restructuring the current political structure; a military conception that is the reason for inequality, stagnation and political instability in Nigeria. We have argued that any government that rejects the restructuring of the current political structure is the problem of the country not the solution.

This so called security vote also supports the arguement for the reform/restructuring of the current political structure that is 'wasteful, expensive and dictatorial'. In the words of Kathrine Dixon, Transparency International's director for defence and security; "the security vote is one of the most durable forms of corruption operating in Nigeria today". Click on this link to read the full report by Amnesty International on how security votes fuel corruption in Nigeria: http://ti-defence.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/DSP_Nigeria_Camouflage_Cash_Web2.pdf

Senator Ahmed Makarfi, former opposition PDP National Chairman said "The extent of corruption under APC will shock Nigerians when kicked out of power".

The time has come for people to ask important questions about the future instead of lending blind support to the same system that keep them in perpetual chains.

The View From The LEAD: We Still Have A Long Way To Go In Nigeria

"What defines us has been debated among scholars and philosphers since classical times"-Jesse Bering. Photo: Uche Okeke

We actually live in strange times. Any political conversation that is not about restructuring of the current political structure is a waste of time. Ordinary people cannot be taken out of poverty by listening to the same cock and bull story at political rallies, every four years as the country's resources is used to purchase arms, pay unaccounted security votes, abnormal executive and legislature wages and incentives, etc. Thinking needs to change. The status-quo does not bring change.

The politicians are the problem not the solution to our collective problems. A new report published by the National Bureau of Statistics, says 7.9 million Nigerians become unemployed in 21-months. Total unemployment and under-employment has increased from 37-percent to 40-percent. Nigeria overtakes India as world's poverty country, etc. . This should be a huge concern. Meanwhile anti-corruption group, Transparency International says Nigeria government spends $670million dollars per-annum on unaccounted security votes -Federal, States and Local Government officials.

What we have is political leaders who don't care about the reality as long as their children are receiving good education and healthcare services overseas, and ignorant electorates who are very comfortable with the way things are- rented crowds for political rally and social-media. Ignorance make people to cheer a system that control and confuse them and make them afraid to ask important questions about the future. I wrote Nigeria's Democracy And Its Crisis Deliberate, Avoidable, so I know that President Buhari and this Government are not the solution but the problem,

How can we talk about change when we exclude people who want to be part of the change process?. What message does it send when politicians defect from one political party to the other to claim immunity from corruption?. How can we talk about change when we reject Restructuring of the monstrous conception-political structure that is the primary condition for stagnation, and instability. Now take a look at this: Why is Oil not a blessing to Nigeria? Click on this link to read: http://www.theleadprojectfoundation.com/2018/01/the-story-of-nigeria-why-is-oil-not.html

We set out to find answers to Nigeria's Democracy And Its Crisis the result is simply summed up in two sentences:

Reasons For Crisis:

(a)The Peril of Destructive Passion-Broken Morals- Authoritarianism and (b)The Mistake of Destiny-Invitation of The Strong-Man. President Buhari is associated with these two causes.

What Can Be Done About It: The Answer is  very simple:

(a)Adjustment/Reform/Restructuring, (b)Educated Electorate and (c) Leadership-Committed Democrats with experience and expertise to deliver.

The Philosophers never mentioned- Dictatorship/Authoritarian Rulers as the solution. These are the world's wisest men, greatest thinkers. In their own words: "If a civilised society, that looks after its people, is to flourish, it must reject authoritarian leaders". I know some may argue we are not yet a civilised society. The question is are we a civilised society?

We would find time to complete this story. Click on this link to read some insights about our findings: Nigeria's Democracy And Its Crisis Deliberate, Avoidable. What Can Be Done About It.

The politicians cannot be trusted, they like the status-quo so we have a long way to go in Nigeria. The struggle for liberty is a common good, together we can change the way things are. Let's learn not to put label on things or fight among ourselves-the victims.

The Next Level in Nigeria: Democracy To Dictatorship?

"A dictator is a political leader that holds absolute power over a country. No one is allowed to oppose their leadership and they are allowed to handle any national situation without approval from anyone"-World History WW11 Online TextBook. Photo: Uche Okeke

The Next Level in Nigeria is a "horriffic idea', a dangerous doctrine of destruction'. The whole point of dictatorship is to have absolute government. Meanwhile , Punch newspaper has reported that an APC ruling party Chieftain who has just won the Senate bye-election in Bauchi State Nigeria has suggested that they would ''ammend the constitution to make President Buhari  life President''. We are aware of a bill in the National Assembly sponsored by another Senator seeking death by hanging for free speech. There is this new Press Bill sponsored by the government. We have just witnessed the invasion of the National Assembly by the Department of the State Security Services in a bid to effect illegal leadership change of the Senate. We have also witnessed increased use of the government's anti-graft agency to 'criminalise, dehumanise and dethrone' political opponents. The president has just sparked a new controversy, during a recent annual conference of the Nigeria Bar Association. He told the country's judiciary that State Security is more important than the rule of law. This is another strong signal. According to Professor Wole Soyinka; "President Buhari's national interest comment is alibi to undermine judiciary". In his words; "the timing is perfect, and we have cause to be thankful for the advance warning, since not all rulers actually make a declaration of intent , but simply proceed to degrade the authority of the law as part of the routine business of governance".[Buhari's Remark on Rule of Law Playback Military Rule; Professor Wole Soyinka, Vanguard, August 31 2018] Our writings about the Mistake of Destiny has got more details about the state of the nation under the current government , click on this link to read more: http://www.theleadprojectfoundation.com/2018/02/today-nigeria-is-not-democratic-country_26.html . History tells us that many dictators rule with violence or force to avoid opposition, and in some places, anyone who opposes a dictator is killed. According to World History WW11 Text Book; "Dictatorships usually deny people basic freedoms. They control their citizens attitudes and beliefs". These are evident in today's Nigeria. Click on this link to read about comments from home and abroad on the state of Nigeria today: http://www.theleadprojectfoundation.com/p/blog-page.html. Dictators are self-proclaimed messiahs who claim to possess monopoly of wisdom to solve political and economic issues in their country often using violent repression of civil liberties including killing to maintain absolute rule. They are very divisive, always hating ethnic minorities and promoting identity politics. They thrive on confusion, control and conflict making their people afraid and manipulating them to believe that they alone can fix the society's problems and bring prosperity. They resent opposition and make their citizens to blame opposition as the cause of their own misfortune.
They invest in security to assert absolute control. In the words of Professor A.C Grayling ; "If a  civilised society, that looks after its people, is to flourish, it must reject authoritarian leaders.
Our experience so far must help us to re-think the idea of encouraging authoritarian rule. We must not repeat the 'Mistake of Destiny'. Democracy needs leaders who know how to manage diversity, inequality and stagnation. The golden age needs effective leaders who have genuine vision, people of expertise and experience to manage modernity- restructuring and believe in democracy. Committed democrats are the future. Let's reject the Next Level- totalitarian rule by voting against any political party that presents a dictator as their candidate for President. Furthermore, Schaeffle warned us that "Dictatorship must be seen not only as a coming evil that must be forseen and prevented, but as a present evil from which we must cure ourselves". Dictatorship is not the future we want. Lastly,  in the words of Michael Gove, UK's Ex-Justice Minister and current Minister for the Enviroment, "History tells us that if we fail to act against evil now, then we will only end up paying an even higher price later. if we do not learn from history, then we will inevitably be condemned by it". The Next Level is a level of might, a danger for the whole of Nigeria. Thinking needs to change. How does it sound : "those who feel they have another country may choose to go", that's the whole point; early warning signals. Abuse of power is a national plaque that must be overthrown at the next election in 2019 to lift people out of poverty. The barbaric events of the last three and half years is a constant reminder not to fall for vain promises of politicians seeking a return of the society to the primitive state. People should not let themselves become 'the useful idiots' of a totalitarian government that is yet to understand that the world has changed. There is no mention of Restructuring the country in their Next Level Agenda so what magic are they offering?

Independence of the legislature is the surest way to safegaurd democracy in Nigeria

"No constitutional system should allow a partisan group to hijack the interests of the whole"-Professor AC Grayling. Photo: Uche Okeke

The recent invasion of the National Assembly by the Department For State Security Services which has sparked global condemnation has opened up more debate on the need for the restructuring of the monstrous political structure to ensure Independent legislature in Nigeria.

The Executive and Legislature should be independent of each other in a democracy. The essence of this constitutional seperation of power is to ''check and balance each other''. Seeking the control of the legislature undermines this constitutional requirement for a functional democracy by compromising the process of the legislature holding the executive to account.

According to The Economic Times, India Blogs; "The legislature makes laws and also holds the executive to account. Elected members ask questions in parliament to which the executive must provide answers. They work in committees, whose findings influence laws and force the government to justify its conduct"-[The Executive And Legislature should Be Independent of Each Other, June 5 2015; Editorials].

While we commend the intervention of the acting President, Professor Osibanjo to avert an extreme danger, the government must demonstrate increased commitment to respect the constitution and ensure that the legislature carries out its statutory function without undue interference by the state.

Seeking control of the legislature reinforces the need for the restructuring of our political structure to guarantee independence, credibility, proportional representation. The members should be men of intergrity, experience and expertise who put the country above personal gains often engineered by the government and political parties.

The legislators should do the needful, reform the 1999 military constitution to enhance proper seperation of military and civilian power so that we can have a fair and just society built on equity and justice. Independent legislature is one sure way to enjoy a stable democratic governance that guarantees freedom and stability. Now is the time to act as we seek collective solution to the nations problems.

The politicians should avoid confrontation and divisive actions at time when tensions are already high. Those in leadership have extra obligation to be very careful and lead by example by following the due process. Democracy is by ballot not bullet. Nigerians have demonstrated a great resolve not to go back to the dark ages, the politicians must take note of this. The government must embrace a modern society seeking a radical shift from the past, fighting the golden age doesn't seem to be the answer.

In Nigeria Defection Means Immunity From Corruption

The notions we harbor of political men and women are a poor guide to reality"-Chris Matthews. Photo: Uche Okeke

The anti-graft agency has become a tool to 'criminalise, to dehumanise and to dethrone' political opponents,in Nigeria as Senator Akpabio proves critics right.

Predictably, you cannot expect immunity from prosecution in Nigeria unless you defect to the ruling APC political party. Senator Akpabio has joined the growing list of politicians who have proved the critics right.

The party has become a cult-like organisation with extreme politics ideology ruthless, and ,desperate, to hold on to power at all costs, which in the words of Lord Alton, the UK House of Lords, "seeking to replace diversity and difference with a monochrome ideology that will be imposed with violence on those who refuse to comply".

If the government can bend the rules for political gains then there is a huge problem.
This is not the future we want for the society. Politics of bullying and intimidation must be rejected. The reality is there is danger ahead. Nigeria's Governors forum has just declared EFCC freezing account of state governments as illegal, but the government is not deterred. This is no longer democracy but full blown tyranny. The unfortunate thing is that only opposition states are targeted.

Thanks to technology we can help change thinking. Our intention is very simple to help ordinary people think different- make better leadership choice, committed democrats not dictatorship. We must guide against another mistake of destiny.

Lets not hand them another opportunity to hang us. We already have idea of what the next level would look like-absolutism. According to Anne Mc Elvoy Senior Editor at the Economist; "You will be sorry but your tears will be too late", History can warn and it can predict.

This is a political party that promised us Restructuring of the monstrous political structure that they now exploit to unleash terror on the society, but they choose to play political football to decieve ordinary people so that they would have another chance to continue their divisive politics.

Instead of brainstorming on how to address mass unemployment, future jobs that technology and automation will wipe out, they're only interested in the next election acknowledging cheers from ignorant people who lend blind support to the very system that robs them of their very humanity.

The National Chairman of Social Democratic Party Nigeria, Chief Olu Falaye who is a strong advocate of restructuring of the monstrous conception-political structure, has described the ruling party as ''a den of illegality'' and urged Nigerians to reject the party at the 2019 elections. We must heed to this statesman call.

Watch: Drama as DSS takes over Nigeria's National Assembly

Photo News: Nigeria's Democracy Under Seige As Gunmen Invade The National Assembly

A bold female legislature confronting armed men who blocked the National Assembly entrance to deny opposition law-makers access to the legislative office. Photo: Facebook.

Nigerians woke up to a rude shock of the invasion of their National Assembly by gun men simply saying that they are acting on orders from above. This is a huge tragedy. We are currently witnessing how anti-democractic elements are destroying the very democracy that empowered them. The implications is obvious collapse of democracy and return to tyranny and anarchy.
Watch Video: http://www.theleadprojectfoundation.com/2018/08/watch-drama-as-dss-takes-over-nass.html.

While we commend the acting President, Professor Osibanjo for quick intervention to restore order we must condemn any act of terror by individuals or groups to truncate our democracy, a return of the society to the primitive state. The Legislature is a very essential part of our democracy and must be independent. Those seeking leadership change of the Senate must follow the due process and allow the country to manage its fragile democracy.

The citizens are already stretched with Boko-Haram terrorists in the North-East and the Herdsmen terrorism in the Middle-Belt including high incidence of kidnapping, killings, and insecurity in various part of the country. This is a time for effective leadership to ensure that the country is focused on investments that will bring change to lift its citizens out of poverty as we still face significant challenges..

Celebrities Can Mislead People To Elect Impotent Government in Nigeria, Beware!

"People tend to regard celebrity views on politics as more authentic and relatable than those of politicians with vested interests"-James chapman.

In our previous blog entry we talked about 'Populist dishonesty in a Democracy-using dishonest means of persuassion and influencers to target voters to enable them make wrong choices. Click on this link to read more: http://www.theleadprojectfoundation.com/2018/05/a-warning-from-history-beware-of.html .

They say information is power. We're committed to helping ordinary people understand the dangers of Authoritarian rule and the need for a restructured Nigeria based on 'Equity and Social Justice'. Authoritarian/Populist leaders are always very desperate for celebrity backers and can pay a fortune to use them achieve their objective. This should be resisted.

We have emphasised that any government that denies the people the restructuring of the current monstrous political structure that keep them in 'bondage'- 'Wasteful, Expensive, Dictatorial' is the problem of the country not the solution, such a government should be rejected by the voters. How can the politicians use 'Restructuring' as a election manifesto to win election only to play political football with it, thereafter. What are they going to tell the electorates in their next manifesto.

Today the people need a leader with intergrity that will ensure justice,  equity, equality, not division,  discrimination and violent repression of civil liberties. Celebrity intervention in domestic politics is a welcome development but must be fair in their objective assessment and endorsement of politicians to effect positive change . This will definitely  help to avoid the misleading of people into making wrong choices as elections are very important process of instituting a sound government.

The mission of this foundation is to promote democracy and freedom in Nigeria using various platforms and helping to achieve a new society that is fair and just . We can help free people from ''living in bondage''.

We must learn to use our various positions to effect positive change. Political bribery helps demagoguery to thrive and is one major reason for impotent government. Dictator rule is anti-human and the main reason for human sufferings around the world.

History has warned that the Next Level is a dangerous doctrine of destruction- 'Absolutism', so our celebrities must not allow themselves to be used to achieve the Next Level in Nigeria, that's the whole point. They said seeing is beleiving. Our experience so far is enough to help us predict the Next Level and the future of our society.

Mass Defection Weakens Nigeria's Ruling APC Party Election Chances in 2019

"Those who are skillful in arms will not obey orders"- Machiavelli

The defections were to be expected and should have come as no surprise. President Buhari's take over of the party didn't go down well with many who saw him as un-sellable brand and a threat to their own political future.

The unfortunate situation is that these defectors are heavy weight politicians that command huge grassroot followership. It's more complex when the rebellion is led by the President's own kits and kin. This puts the ruling APC party in a very tight position despite the power of incumbency.

 Uche Okeke.

Self-Inflicted Mistakes Brought Crisis Upon Nigeria's APC Ruling Party

"The thirst to subordinate others makes violence, deceit and betrayal become inevitable"- Rousseau

We're being proved right, virtually all our predictions about implosion in the ruling APC party have come true. The leadership is the reason for this avoidable crisis. In a heterogeneous society like Nigeria, diversity matters. No individual  has monopoly of wisdom. Seeking to exclude others often leads to crisis.

Suddenly the party becomes a movement dedicated to imposing its fanatical ideology on its own society at all costs not minding the consequences, its not everyone that will take that. The recent national convention of the party where the party finally succumbed to President  Buhari's capture was the final straw that broke the carmel's back. Naturally, those who cannot compete either resign to his take over of the party or look elsewhere to  keep their political career on track.

According to the Machiavelli; the Prince resolved to depend no longer on the arms or fortune of others, his first step therefore was to weaken the factions so that only him will be in total control and ''the hopes of all vested on him alone''. The strategy is to change the existing order of things by throwing the party into confusion in order to make himself the master- crushing the Chiefs of the Republic.

Naturally the Political heavy weights wouldn't just let go easily. The Prince must be injured. "If injury has to be done to the Prince it should be so severe that his vengeance must not be feared"-Machiavelli[The Prince].

The ruling APC Political party is now in disarray and the likelihood of the leading  opposition PDP party taking over control of both chambers of the National Assembly and possible election victory to form the national government come 2019 due to strong alliance with the defectors from the ruling APC party is very high. This is exactly what the scenario looks like, time will tell.
