In Nigeria Defection Means Immunity From Corruption

The notions we harbor of political men and women are a poor guide to reality"-Chris Matthews. Photo: Uche Okeke

The anti-graft agency has become a tool to 'criminalise, to dehumanise and to dethrone' political opponents,in Nigeria as Senator Akpabio proves critics right.

Predictably, you cannot expect immunity from prosecution in Nigeria unless you defect to the ruling APC political party. Senator Akpabio has joined the growing list of politicians who have proved the critics right.

The party has become a cult-like organisation with extreme politics ideology ruthless, and ,desperate, to hold on to power at all costs, which in the words of Lord Alton, the UK House of Lords, "seeking to replace diversity and difference with a monochrome ideology that will be imposed with violence on those who refuse to comply".

If the government can bend the rules for political gains then there is a huge problem.
This is not the future we want for the society. Politics of bullying and intimidation must be rejected. The reality is there is danger ahead. Nigeria's Governors forum has just declared EFCC freezing account of state governments as illegal, but the government is not deterred. This is no longer democracy but full blown tyranny. The unfortunate thing is that only opposition states are targeted.

Thanks to technology we can help change thinking. Our intention is very simple to help ordinary people think different- make better leadership choice, committed democrats not dictatorship. We must guide against another mistake of destiny.

Lets not hand them another opportunity to hang us. We already have idea of what the next level would look like-absolutism. According to Anne Mc Elvoy Senior Editor at the Economist; "You will be sorry but your tears will be too late", History can warn and it can predict.

This is a political party that promised us Restructuring of the monstrous political structure that they now exploit to unleash terror on the society, but they choose to play political football to decieve ordinary people so that they would have another chance to continue their divisive politics.

Instead of brainstorming on how to address mass unemployment, future jobs that technology and automation will wipe out, they're only interested in the next election acknowledging cheers from ignorant people who lend blind support to the very system that robs them of their very humanity.

The National Chairman of Social Democratic Party Nigeria, Chief Olu Falaye who is a strong advocate of restructuring of the monstrous conception-political structure, has described the ruling party as ''a den of illegality'' and urged Nigerians to reject the party at the 2019 elections. We must heed to this statesman call.

Uche Okeke.
