The View From The LEAD: We Still Have A Long Way To Go In Nigeria

We actually live in strange times. Any political conversation that is not about restructuring of the current political structure is a waste of time. Ordinary people cannot be taken out of poverty by listening to the same cock and bull story at political rallies, every four years as the country's resources is used to purchase arms, pay unaccounted security votes, abnormal executive and legislature wages and incentives, etc. Thinking needs to change. The status-quo does not bring change.

The politicians are the problem not the solution to our collective problems. A new report published by the National Bureau of Statistics, says 7.9 million Nigerians become unemployed in 21-months. Total unemployment and under-employment has increased from 37-percent to 40-percent. Nigeria overtakes India as world's poverty country, etc. . This should be a huge concern. Meanwhile anti-corruption group, Transparency International says Nigeria government spends $670million dollars per-annum on unaccounted security votes -Federal, States and Local Government officials.

What we have is political leaders who don't care about the reality as long as their children are receiving good education and healthcare services overseas, and ignorant electorates who are very comfortable with the way things are- rented crowds for political rally and social-media. Ignorance make people to cheer a system that control and confuse them and make them afraid to ask important questions about the future. I wrote Nigeria's Democracy And Its Crisis Deliberate, Avoidable, so I know that President Buhari and this Government are not the solution but the problem,

How can we talk about change when we exclude people who want to be part of the change process?. What message does it send when politicians defect from one political party to the other to claim immunity from corruption?. How can we talk about change when we reject Restructuring of the monstrous conception-political structure that is the primary condition for stagnation, and instability. We set out to find answers to Nigeria's Democracy And Its Crisis the result is simply summed up in two sentences:

Reasons For Crisis:

(a)The Peril of Destructive Passion-Broken Morals- Authoritarianism and (b)The Mistake of Destiny-Invitation of The Strong-Man. President Buhari is associated with these two causes.

What Can Be Done About It: The Answer is  very simple:

(a)Adjustment/Reform/Restructuring, (b)Educated Electorate and (c) Leadership-Committed Democrats with experience and expertise to deliver.

The Philosophers never mentioned- Dictatorship/Authoritarian Rulers as the solution. These are the world's wisest men, greatest thinkers. In their own words: "If a civilised society, that looks after its people, is to flourish, it must reject authoritarian leaders". I know some may argue we are not yet a civilised society. The question is are we a civilised society?

We would find time to complete this story. Click on this link to read some insights about our findings: Nigeria's Democracy And Its Crisis Deliberate, Avoidable. What Can Be Done About It.

The politicians cannot be trusted, they like the status-quo so we have a long way to go in Nigeria. The struggle for liberty is a common good, together we can change the way things are. Let's learn not to put label on things or fight among ourselves-the victims.
